Measuring with Digital Multimeters
KDMM is an application to use digital multimeters with serial interface (RS 232) together with your computer. KDMM displays measurements from the DMM, draws a graph from the measurements and also reads the DMM's measurement memory. Have a look at the screenshot below.
KDMM was written for KDE, the K Desktop Environment; thus it runs on many Unix(tm) systems. So far it was tried with Linux. Requirements are: A Unix system, Qt 1.x, KDE 1.1, POSIX threads, and of course a DMM.
KDMM is published under the GNU General Public License (GPL).
There is no version of KDMM that uses KDE 2 or KDE 3. Both versions are in some minor aspects incompatible to KDE 1. It would be very welcome if someone wants to do the conversion to KDE 3.
You can use KDMM on systems with KDE2/3, if KDMM and also KDE 1 libraries are already installed. For example, if you plan to switch from KDE 1 to KDE 3, just leave KDE 1 installed on your system. KDMM won't show up in KDE 3's K-Menu, but you can create a menu entry manually.
For experts: It is even possible to compile KDMM for KDE 1 even if you are using a newer version (or you are using a desktop environment other than KDE). Just have a KDE 1 build system installed (including Qt 1.x) and set the KDEDIR and QTDIR environment variables appropiately only for the shell you are using to compile. Then, follow the usual build and install instructions.
Some parts of KDMM are (most probably) Linux specific.
DMM compatibility: DMMs from Voltcraft or Metex can be used. It was tried with Voltcraft M-3650CR. Due to slight differences between various DMMs, theoretically it could happen that some DMMs do not work (but I don't think so...).
Multiple DMMs can be used at the same time, but this feature has not been tried.
Currently, KDMM is availiable as source code only: Current Version (0.6.1)
